Star Cinema defends Angel Locsin
MANILA – An executive of ABS-CBN's movie outfit, Star Cinema, has spoken with Lily Monteverde to explain why Angel Locsin could not join Megastar Sharon Cuneta in “Mano Po 6: My Mother.”
In an official statement, managing director Malou Santos said that she assured Monteverde, the matriarch of Regal Films, that Locsin wanted to be part of the movie. The actress, however, could not commit due to "prior commitments and busy schedules."
After her television series, “Only You,” Santos disclosed that Locsin is scheduled to make two films – one with Aga Muhlach under the direction of Cathy Garcia-Molina and another with director Chito Roño.
She added that the actress will also start taping for a new teleserye.
"I hope this will put the issue to rest. Thank you for your understanding and continued support to Angel Locsin," Santos said.
The statement was issued after Monteverde reportedly expressed disappointment over Locsin's decision not to do the film with Cuneta.
Monteverde reportedly claimed that Locsin had a commitment to make three more movies under Regal. Despite this, Monteverde said she held no grudge against Locsin and ABS-CBN.
Before joining ABS-CBN, Locsin starred in "Mano Po 2" (2003), "Mano Po 3" (2004), and "Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di" (2006). The actress signed a two-year exclusive contract with ABS-CBN on Aug. 11, 2007.
