Glaiza De Castro's face has always been compared with her co-actress, Angel Locsin. Right now, she is currently seen in GMA-7 youth oriented show, Boys Nxt Door.
I first noticed that she looks like Angel Locsin in the teleserye "Asian Treasures" where she played Robin Padilla's sister. It would be more believable if she was Angel Locsin's sibling instead. Asian Treasures, I believe, was Angel Locsin's last project with GMA-7 before transferring to ABS-CBN.

Angel Locsin faces biggest challenge in 'Lobo'

After opting not to renew her contract with her old network GMA-7, actress Angel Locsin took the biggest gamble of her career by practically starting over again as a new talent at ABS-CBN.

The change was traumatic. Locsin was almost immediately hounded by several controversies, including the accusation that she was ungrateful to her old network, which made her a star in the seven years that she stayed there.

There was even a scandal that fingered her as the woman in a sex video with a Japanese man, the pirated CD of which was peddled on the sidewalks.

It was later revealed that the actress was actually a Thai model turned soft porn star.

After braving the storm of controversies that came with her career move, Angel Locsin is back at work; ready to take on opportunities that the Kapamilya network has opened for her.

Locsin has her hands full with various projects with ABS-CBN. Her first was a "Maala-ala Mo Kaya" (MMK) episode with Sam Milby, where she delivered critically-acclaimed performance.

She also guested in various Kapamilya shows like "ASAP ’07," "Wowowee," "Goin Bulilit," "Kapamilya: Deal or No Deal" and "John En Shirley."

After the grand Kapamilya welcome that she received, fans and the entire industry are even more excited about Angel’s first major project with ABS-CBN: "Lobo", a teleserye with Piolo Pascual.

The charming actress is all set to do the tapings for the show. She and Piolo had to work hard in preparation for their roles in what ABS-CBN promises to be an exceptional teleserye.

“We enrolled in different workshops. May modeling, paragliding at marami pang ibang magaganap, pero hindi ko muna sasabihin para surprise talaga!” exclaimed Locsin.

From the look of things, the actress seems to be enjoying herself in this new chapter in her acting career.

“So far, I’m having a unique experience here in ABS-CBN. They give us good projects and great directors. At may mairereklamo pa ba ko, nakasama ko po si Sam Milby sa MMK at si Piolo naman sa bago naming teleserye. I’m very grateful to ABS-CBN for entrusting me with this kind of responsibility,” Locsin added.

After these two major productions, more projects are lined up for this fresh-faced beauty, including a movie with Piolo.

Highly anticipated

According to sources, "Lobo" can be considered as ABS-CBN’s most ambitious project to date. The stars are, however, more than prepared for the pressure.

“We’re very thankful [to] ABS-CBN and Star Cinema for entrusting us with this teleserye and we’re making sure that they will not be disappointed. Talaga pong napaka-intense ng paghahanda namin ni PJ (Piolo's nickname) bago kami magsimula ng taping,” said Locsin.

“And now that we’ve started taping, we’re going through a tremendous process,” according to leading man Pascual. “Direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina) and Direk Rory (Quintos) are very meticulous with details, para maging maganda talaga ang aming produkto.”

Locsin and Pascual are aware of the kind of expectations being generated by their teleserye among fans.

“It’s coming very soon. Viewers will not be disappointed, because the whole cast and crew is making sure that this teleserye will be unforgettable,” Locsin said.

Angel Locsin remains top TV draw

The recent episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya on ABS-CBN titled "Pilat" with Angel Locsin and Sam Milby is the show's highest rating so far. For the first time, the show beat the two Korean novelas on GMA-7 and the 12th anniversary episode of the gag show Bubble Gang.
This proves that Locsin has a solid fan base that no matter where she goes, her fans would follow.
I will refrain from delving into the wisdom or foolishness of her move to the Kapamilya network because it is now moot and academic having signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN, thanks but no thanks to the machinations of her manager, Becky Aguila.
We will just closely observe how she fares in her new home. I am very confident though she can pull it through because there's no one in this broadcast complex who is in the same league as she is.
No, I'm not going to name names, but Angel is really a standout here among her Kapamilya. Pardon, but even Star Magic's prime female stars are no match to this young star's sex appeal.
I caught Angel's first appearance as a drama actress on the Kapamilya network in last Friday's Maalaala Mo Kaya's "Pilat" episode. While the plot was predictably feeble and the writing hackneyed, Locsin was able to rise above the mediocrity of the material. Thanks to an equally competent Sam Milby who seemed to have learned to use his language problem to his advantage.
We're looking forward to Lobo, the series that pits her opposite the 30-year-old matinee idol Piolo Pascual.
This project is being produced by Star Television, another unit in the network's multiple-business-units set up and according to the guys behind the show the shooting has been continuous so that they do a more meticulous post production work on the series.
The victory in the ratings of Maalaala Mo Kaya with Angel in the episode last Friday had everyone in the network cheering for the star. After all, the show never really came to anything closer in the ratings of Bubble Gang and the two Korea novelas in the previous weeks.

Angel Locsin was supposed to play the role of 'Marimar' in GMA-7. However, since she transferred to ABS-CBN, the role was won by Marian Rivera. Currently, Angel Locsin is taping "La Loba Blanca" with Piolo Pascual.

Marimar series is hitting 40% (even higher in some days) rating. Does Angel Locsin feel throttled by this revelation? If she didn't transfer stations, she could have gotten the Marimar role. Many has has said that her transfer to ABS-CBN is a demotion of her title. Now, she is no longer called the Soap Queen but only a Soap Princess because of the strong line-up of ABS-CBN's primetime stars.

It's my first time to see Angel Locsin doing heavy drama. The trailer focused more of her than Sam Milby. I was moved when I watched the trailer even without sounds. This will be her first drama appearance in ABS-CBN as she has been absent from "telenovelas" for quite some time now. All her fans will be excited to watch a different Angel Locsin. No more sexy fairy costumes or tomboyish kick-ass roles. Just pure poor girl drama show.

My comment to Butch Francsico's remark is let's just wait more and judge. Based on the trend in the internet world nowadays, Angel Locsin is the most in demand Filipina actress. I haven't seen any actress who is close to her popularity these days. Heart Evangelista once had this kind of presence even though she never posted in the FHM. Tsk... bad for her, she fell in love with Jericho Rosales and had this bad case of asthma which detained her from doing more projects, thus, ending her career abruptly at its height.

Angel Locsin does not cease to become controversial. After leaving GMA 7 and moving to ABS-CBN, the actress is now being hounded by Regal Entertainment matriarch Lily Monteverde because of her (Angel’s) existing contract with the film company.

Mother Lily insists Angel shouldn’t have signed an exclusive contract with Star Cinema for movies, since Angel still has a contract to fulfill with Regal Entertainment. Angel’s two-year contract with ABS-CBN covers exclusivity also for her movies.

The Regal matriarch is so affected by this issue that during the press conference last Thursday for her latest movie "My Kuya’s Wedding," she shed tears when she obliged to comment on Angel Locsin after colleague Mario Bautista asked her about "this talent, who in the beginning was profusedly thanking her for trusting her (the talent)."

Yesterday, Mother Lily was set to meet with Malou Santos, the big boss of Star Cinema, so they can resolve Angel’s problem of signing up with the latter outfit. Mister Showbiz learned Mother Lily is not amenable to a joint venture with ABS-CBN’s film arm for Angel’s next movie.

Mother Lily admits earlier on that she felt bad when she learned about Angel’s film contract with Star Cinema. The Regal producer is threatening to file a damage suit against Angel once the actress starts to work on her Star Cinema project, without Mother Lily’s knowledge. But let’s trust that after Mother Lily’s meeting last night with Star Cinema, they should have arrived at an amicable decision favorable for both outfits.

Since ABS-CBN signed up Angel, the network lost no time in giving her projects. She was given a grand welcome in "ASAP ‘07." She was also fielded in several ABS-CBN shows for guesting stints, like "The Buzz," "Boy and Kris" and "Deal or No Deal."

Angel is also set to start taping soon for her first primetime series on ABS-CBN, "Taong Lobo," where she will be paired with Piolo Pascual. The story is penned by Ricky Lee and Cathy Molina will work at the helm of the series.

Angel and Piolo previously worked together in a TV commercial for a coffee drink and a billboard for a watch company. Piolo will also be Angel’s leading man in the latter’s first film project for Star Cinema.

Angel is endlessly thankful for the warm welcome she received from ABS-CBN, especially the grand party hosted for her in "ASAP ‘07," where she arrived in style – aboard a limousine and in a Rajo Laurel gown.

New Kapamilya star Angel Locsin's presence in ASAP '07 and Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal help propel these ABS-CBN shows to the top in their timeslots.

Angel's grand welcome in ASAP '07 last Sunday, August 19, posted a rating of 20.6 percent while its rival, GMA-7's SOP, got 17.0 percent rating. This is according to the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Metro Manila households.

On the following day, August 20, Angel was the celebrity contestant in Kris Aquino's game show, Deal Or No Deal, and it got a high 32.8 percent rating. That figure was the highest for any Kapamilya show that day. Angel's guesting in Deal Or No Deal went up against Kapuso telenovela Impostora, which posted 30.0 percent.

Many were expecting that Angel's appearance in Kris's game show would pit her directly against Marian Rivera's Marimar on GMA-7. But since Lupin ended last Friday, its original timeslot was taken over by Marimar, which is now pitted against Judy Ann Santos's Ysabella. The role of Marimar was first offered to Angel, but the former Kapuso star declined.

Actress Angel Locsin may have ruffled feathers in her former home after announcing her transfer to ABS-CBN but she is being met with open arms by a former colleague now working for the Kapamilya Network.

Anne Curtis, a former talent of GMA-7, denied reports that she is insecure with Locsin's transfer to ABS-CBN .

“It’s not true. I welcome Angel with open arms,” Curtis told radio DZMM. She also told Locsin's detractors that they should give Angel a break after she was placed on the receiving end of criticisms for abandoning the station that made her a star.

Will GMA-7's former teleserye queen, Angel Locsin's untimely decamp to ABS-CBN be the end of her career?

Angel has been the talk of the town for the past two months, especially when she left for London for a two-week fashion designing study.

Her career has been held in abeyance for a while but ABS-CBN says she will soon have her own teleserye with Piolo Pascual.

Varied reactions have been heard from her fans and the warring studios, movie producers and kibitzers; bordering on violence/outrage or different degrees/shades of understanding.

Some have called Angel and "ingrate" or "traitor" for leaving the studio that gambled time, money, effort and immeasurable amount of love so she could become a superstar.

Others insist she is just doesn't possess loyalty and is more interested in money or royalty after earning at least P40 million with GMA-7.

You see Angel around in numerous endorsements, commercials on print and electronic media because she happens to be one of the most effective product endorsers.

She has had some hit movies with Richard Gutierrez but her popularity isn't yet that secure like Claudine Barreto or Judy Ann Santos who has replaced Claudine as the queen of Channel 2.

So what do showbiz's most vocal and feared talent managers say about Angel's decamping to the other side? <>In one one of his live radio shows, Alfie Lorenzo, who manages the late-blooming Judy Ann Santos said: "That would be the end of Angel's career. She reigned supreme at GMA-7 and was treated as a queen, with plenty of perks and expansion. Why should she want to go to Channel 2 and compete with several wanna-bes' for Claudine's crown?"

Alfie added, "Does she think she will get royal treatment from the rival network? Will it be fair if she gets more projects than those who have slaved their lives at ABS-CBN? Do you think she is better in terms of talent, beauty, box-office appeal? She can't dance nor sing, that's a big minus on her."

But the controversial Lolit Solis has other things to say. "What Angel has done is a common phenomenon to the movie world. When a talent wants to earn more money and thinks he/she wants bigger opportunities for his/her talent improvement, why not go to a source who can provide what he/she wants?"

Lolit one time called Angel "traydor" which made her manager, Becky Aguila react with high blood and a promise to answer Lolit's allegation.

Anyway, she said, GMA-7 can always find other better, much younger and potential stars who can outlive the restless and wandering Angel Locsin.

GMA-7 no longer talks about their former studio star but Channel 2 seems to discuss with relish its advantages gained with Angel's transfer to its stable.
